The Big Bazoohley by Peter Carey

Sam has travelled with his parents to deliver one of his mum's paintings to a buyer. Sam's dad is a gambler and his parents don't have enough money to pay for their hotel until the painting is sold. But when the buyer is nowhere to be found and the family are worried about money, Sam finds himself locked outside his hotel room in the middle of the night and unable to get back in. While trying to find a way to get back into his room he meets Nasty Muriel and Droopy George who try to scrub him clean. Sam ends up with a plan to get The Big Bazoohley - the big jackpot that will rid his family of their money worries. This is a really humerous story where everything works out in the end!
