The story of a baby boy, Jonasi, who is rescued from the sea and brought up on an island in the Cook Islands group. He is mute and therefore regarded as a bad omen so has few friends. Jonasi befriends a white turtle, also regarded as a bad omen.
I guess that in times when people lived close to nature, there was much superstitution.
