The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

World War 2 genre but to me a very unique approach and my other best read for 2007. The narrator, Death, follows the life of Liesel a young German girl. This is YA fiction, not nasty but a haunting look at life in Germany during the war, and the humanity of a small group who shelter a Jew. Many themes are interwoven into this stunning book, excellent storytelling, compelling reading and thought provoking.
