Ms. Rubinstein's Beauty, Pep Montserrat

Picture Book
The pictures in this book are unusual in itself, which works well with the story. They are all browns and blacks, except for the main parts (Ms. Rubinstien and things)

This is a book about not judging people by the way they look. It starts talking about all the lovely things that Ms. Rubinstein has, like her eyes, nose, hands, small feet, but how nobody ever notices these things - because she has a big beard, she works in the circus...
But one man notices all these things about her - I won't give away the twist at the end!

I read this story, and I chuckled, so I tried it with my class, they laughed too, but when we talked about what the story was actually saying they all got it, and then would say things like 'don't look at my beard' when someone said something nasty to them! We finished off by writing something nice about every person in the class - could be something about them (their eyes, or hair) or about their personality, then everyone got to take their card home... Made the year end on a really nice note, and they all were nice to each other!

I forgot to add
The book is dedicated 'to all the bearded ladies, including those who are neither ladies nor bearded'

Love it!
