Chanda and the mirror of moonlight by Margaret Bateson Hill

This is a beautifully illustrated traditional story from India. In it the heroine, Chanda, is reduced to servant status when her parents die, but eventually finds happiness with a Prince. There are difficulties along the way in the form of a wicked step mother, but a magic peacock and mirror help her achieve her dreams.
This book uses some lovely vocabulary and is really well written. It 'flows' well.
