This memoir by Marjane Satrapi is very intense and political. It looks at Iranian society through the experiences of an intellectually aware girl. As a black and white graphic novel, the images are haunting - as is the written content. There are striking contrasts, not just artistically, but also within the complexity of the society in which the book is set.
