Closed stranger by Kate de Goldi
Another wonderful book by Kate de Goldi. Set in Christchurch it tells the story of the friendship between the narrator, Max, and his friend Westie. When Westie is contacted by his birth mother events unfold that impact on their friendship with devastating results. The storytelling is compelling and the ending, while anticipated, is still a shock. This story stayed in my head for days after I finished the book. I would recommend it to teenagers 14 and up.
