Deadly by M Gleitzman and P Jennings

Science fiction adventure.
It begins with the narrator describing events one presumes are dreams or nightmares. I waited for the return to normality. It didn't happen.

Sprocket and Amy are experiencing very strange events separately then their lives collide. The adventure tension lasts from page 1 to the final pages which is too much for most readers. One loses interest. There is no change of pace. However children who like lots of action and tension may see it differently.

The pursuit of youth forever is the plot. The first time Amy meets the Brats is slightly humorous but also sinister. They look like young children but speak and act as adults. They can't be described as mature adults though. They and others are seeking more of the youth elixir and nothing is going to stop them. There is a little oddity in this story regarding the elixir. It doesn't effect the mental age of the Brats but when Amy's relative takes it both physical and mental age are matched.

Plenty of action for young readers of 9 and up. I didn't care for the pace at all.
