The Dreamwalker's Child by Steve Voake

This is a gripping story. It begins with the hint of an unknown threat sensed by Sam, a child entomologist.

I thought the story was going into the impersonal world of many science fiction stories. It didn't , thankfully. Sam enters a strange world after he is knocked unconscious in an accident. He is of great significance to all sides in this hostile world which is not to his advantage at all.

However he meets another character who enlivens the story with character and optimism. The story was going downhill for me prior to this. She is young like him in years but older in many ways. She adds a lot of danger to the story.
