It's a mini West Side Story from the feline world but the narrator is the rat whose name is never given. The pages are black with bright, rectangular inset pictures of all sizes. The rat is outside all the pictures looking in as he narrates. His position changes on the page when the plot takes a surprise turn involving him. His concern is no longer coming from the sidelines. He is now the centre of action and therefore the illustration. This is quite funny visually.
The dedication's placement is unusual, placed at the back of the book but there is reason for that, of course. It is read and not skipped over. Dedicated to Desmond Tutu for his feline-talented contribution to this crazy human world.
A wonderful book.
