When I read the blurb of this book I didn't think I would enjoy it much, but I decided it was short, looked easy to read so I would give it a go! It is a novel that is mainly aimed at 8 year olds who are looking for a bit of a better read than some of the books out there.
It is about a child (it is never mentioned or hinted whether this child is a girl or a boy) who is living with their parents in some (unmentioned) war torn country. The parents are there helping the sick in a village, but eventually decide it is time to leave. The story is about their journey, on foot, with a guide, a donkey, and the child's fish, through the country to try and reach the border to safety.
A lovely book that really shows the struggles some people have to go through in their lives.
