To the Harbour by Stanley Palmer

This is a beautifully illustrated sophisticated picture book. I enjoyed looking at the illustrations just as much as the story. It's about a couple of kids who go away on a camping trip to Graham's Beach & what they experience there. There is some wonderfully descriptive language in the story, and the author has also taken the time to explain the meaning of some NZ slang words eg. flicks - the movies; bughouse - movie theatre. A fantastic book written by a New Zealander, especially for older children interested in boats & camping.
